Interview with Springfield Vineyard Church »

April and I met with the pastor from the Springfield Vineyard to ask a few questions about his church. We’re gun-shy after what has happened at First & Calvary, so as we’re looking for a new place to worship and invest our time/money, we want to make sure we know what we are getting ourselves into.

Keep On Walking »

We only have so much time on this earth to speak and share with others. I am not inadequate if my communication fails to meet my standards of eloquence and clarity–as long as I am writing, I am winning.

The first newsletter written for SilverPen Publishing was prepared specially for a family reunion.

New furniture! April tells me the cats are freaking out :-P

We’ve got a giant brown SumoSac on the way and a cover for the old sofa (linen coloured). The old dining table, three dining chairs, and old coffee table are in the basement. They will soon be joined by the armoire to make room for the sumo sac. We’re increasing our comfy seating from 3 to 8 total seats in the living/reading rooms.

(I think I’m going to stop calling it the formal dining room and start calling it the reading room. I actually prefer “family room,” but April likes “reading.”)

Lacking time to write, I recorded a quick video of what’s running through my head and why there’s no OBS this week.

Severe Java Vulnerability in Mac OS X »

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a huge hole in Mac OS X’s security in regards to Java that has been there for some time and remains unpatched. This Java exploit is proven to work 100% of the time on all browsers and operating systems that are unpatched, but both Linux and Microsoft Windows are patched. Apple, as yet, remains open and vulnerable.

After learning of this, I quickly wrote some directions on how to disable Java in your web browser on OS X (we’ll be adding more operating systems and browsers later) and how to install both Firefox and NoScript to protect yourself in case you do need to use Java on occasion.

If you use a Mac, be sure to disable Java or at least install NoScript. Otherwise you’re just leaving yourself open to attack.

I was surprised that a young man would work so hard to attend the camp I disliked so much when I was younger. Likewise, his excitement inspired the same in me, and I wish him well.

You don’t have to agree with me, or with Neil Gaiman, or anyone else. You simply need to let your voice be heard.

Moleskine Notebook »

I don’t often visit the National Art shop on National Ave. here in Springfield, but such avoidance flows from no hatred of the arts. I simply have no need for the tools they provide, being neither an artist nor a nation, and what few items they have that I might use (paper and pens/pencils) are generally overpriced. Despite that, I found myself wandering their gleaming aisles yesterday while April shopped for easels. During her art class last semester, April discovered that she has a burgeoning interest in art, and a fair talent for its discourse, but felt limited in her expression at home. Lacking an easel meant laying the paper flat upon the floor or a table, which made getting the proper perspective translated onto the page impossible.

Since April’s parents had established a tradition with her older brothers of acquiring furniture on their behalf upon college graduation, April’s first thought was to get an easel, hence the art shop. I, of course, began looking at paper and pens.
